Work-in-Progress Wednesday 24
Good news, I'm healthy! Bad news, I have WAY too many WIPs. As I mentioned in my post earlier this week, I keep starting projects. I think part of it is because I was sick so I kept starting new stuff since I didn't feel like working on something I already had started. Also, I want to get through some of my yarn for the yarn diet. Obviously, I realize I need to finish projects to do that, instead of starting them, but for some reason that's not hitting home. LOL
Here's a few of the WIPs (a few didn't really visually change so no point in posting them):
I am FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY getting to this purse. It is (was) for Christmas, for my sister-in-law in Chicago. I decided to use Buff, an oatmeal color, and then will be putting a darker lining in it. This is the 3rd time I've made this purse, and I will say, I think this is my best. For some reason, it's coming out a little bigger than my last one (or maybe not as big as it seems since the last one was in black). Anyway, I'll be happy when it's finished. I've only been working on it one evening, and hope to actually have the crochet part finished when you read this. I have a crochet meet up Tuesday night (or last night I guess, since you're reading this Wednesday), so I hope to finish it then.
This doesn't look like anything, I know, but I thought I would include it anyway because I'm using my first hand dyed yarn I did several months ago. It's Fisherman's wool. Since it's a partial skein I didn't want to choose a big project for it and run out of yarn, so I chose this pattern. Since I now sew, and don't have a pincushion I thought it would be perfect. I'm excited to finish this. I haven't decided if I'm going to felt it when I'm done or not. I've never felted anything before!
And the hat. Since I'm working on tons of stuff, I haven't done too much more, but since it now lays flat because it's long enough, I thought I would share. I'm really happy with how even the stitches came out, even if the ribbing is messy. It does get a little boring since it's just knit stitch though.
That's it for me this week. What are you working on?
For those that are new to WIPW, to share your WIPW post with us, just fill out the Mr. Linky below. Despite it saying you must comment, don't feel as if you do. That is something Mr. Linky automatically adds. I just ask you to check out a few of the links posted to see what everyone else is working on and comment there if you can. Everyone loves feedback and a little encouragement on their projects! Also, please link back to this post in your post to get the word out! The more the merrier!
Thank you, Tami, for keeping this going.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better. A pincushion...brilliant. I have been trying to think of something to make with that first small bit of yarn I spun.
ReplyDeleteI quite like the purse you're working on! Really cute. A few of my friends have also been knitting little pouches like this. Think I might add a pattern like this to my queue!
ReplyDeleteHow is it that WIP Wednesday seems to come round quicker each week?
ReplyDeleteHoorah for feeling better! I do love the green of the yarn in the middle picture. Actually, I love all green yarns!
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear that you're feeling better, other than the startitis that you've contracted. It must be contagious because everyone I know has it right now! You have some great projects on the hook. Love the purse in that color, it really brings out the stitch pattern. Your hand dyeing is impressive, what a pretty green and the pincushion pattern is so cute! Knitting stockinette in the round can be relaxing but dull. I'm glad that you're sticking to it though. Sometimes I like to add stripes or use pretty variegated yarn to make the knitting more interesting.
ReplyDeleteOh good golly! You're bunny pincushion is going to be so darn cute. I can't wait to see him finished. Love that you're making him with your own hand-dyed yarn. I haven't tried that yet but it's on my list of things to do!
ReplyDeleteThat bag is coming so cute Tami!
ReplyDeleteI have to many projects in wip, that its overwhelming. I need to buckle down and set priorities.
PS: glad you are feeling better mama <3
Liz, you're welcome! Thank you for participating!
ReplyDeleteDina, exactly! I needed a project that was small enough so I knew I wouldn't run out of yarn, and yet I didn't want to make something that I would just throw in a closet since it was my first dye project.
Rachel, this purse is SO easy and SO cute when finished. I did finish it last night (at least the crochet part), so it only took me two evenings to make. If I was really concentrating, I'm sure I could make it in one day.
Craftycripple, seriously. Has the weeks shrunk?
Countess Ablaze, thank you! It's not the best yarn I've ever dyed, but for my first time, not terrible. I was proud of it at the time!
autumngeisha, thanks! Good idea on the stripes or something to make it more interesting. Since it was my first hat, I didn't want to do anything too crazy until I figured out how to knit in the round. I think next time I might try and do something a little more exciting if this one goes well the rest of the way. I'm not exactly sure how to add a new yarn color when knitting in the round yet. I'll have to look that one up.
Paula, thank you! I can't wait until he looks like more than a few lines of crochet! Making things with hand-dyed is SO fun, because you never quite know what it's going to look like.
Michelle, thank you! Setting priorities, what a great idea! I think I need to take a lesson in that.
Glad you're feeling better! I bet that purse is going to be gorgeous :D
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are feeling better. That purse is such a cute pattern.
ReplyDeleteI love the shade of blue your using for that hat.
Glad you're feeling better! The colour of that hand-dyed yarn is lovely. I wonder if I should try dyeing, hmmm...
ReplyDeleteBeadKnitter, thank you! I love the color of the hat as well. I figure it goes well with pretty much everything and jeans!
ReplyDeleteKathleen, thank you. It IS much easier to see in the tan color, isn't it? You should totally make the pincushion! It's too cute to pass up. I think I'll take your advice and try felting. Since it's such a little project, I can just felt it by hand in the sink instead of the washing machine, correct? What's the best way to do it?
Susie, thank you. You should try dyeing. It's a BLAST.
Glad you're feeling better Tami.
ReplyDeleteLove the colour of your hand dyed yarn and thanks for linking the pattern for the crochet monster =)
The color of the overdyed Fishermen's wool has that gorgeous, subtle watercolor look. That was the first dye job? Huzzah. I can't wait to see the pincushion!
ReplyDeleteWe should all make pincushions by the end of the year! Which I would use for blocking pins!
Gertie, thank you and you're welcome! :)
ReplyDeleteKathleen, thank you thank you thank you! What a great link! I'm going to try and finish this guy so that I can hopefully try felting it this weekend! Now I'm totally excited!
Narwhal Love, thank you! It was my first ever dye job, hence why I used such a small portion of the skein. I didn't want to waste a ton of yarn if it looked crappy. What a great idea! I'm going to search for a few different knit/crochet patterns so we can do a CAL/KAL soon! Thanks!
The purse is very cute! So was your dyeing, especially the red/purple skein earlier this week -- wow, just gorgeous. I have used Fishermen's Wool and Patons CLassic Wool for dyeing & they work very well for me. I think the Patons is a little softer & less fuzzy. I've also tried the Knit Picks Bare -- a little more expensive, but it comes in fingering weight, which is my favorite, and it is softer than the other two. Dyeing is yet another addictive option in the fiber arts!
ReplyDeleteMarushka, I've used all of those as well. I'd say the Knit Picks bare is my favorite, in either worsted or fingering. I actually just ordered more so that I can have a decent stock when I open up shop! I was shocked at how great the Patons picked up the color.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea - hope to be able to join in often :)
ReplyDeleteSomeone is stealing days, making the weeks shorter.
ReplyDeleteYour stitching looks very even on your hat. Your making great progress with your knitting.
yellowpurplezebra, thank you! I hope you're able to join us often as well. :)
ReplyDeleteDenise, seriously, I feel like there are only like 2 days in between WIPWs. It's insanity. Thanks for the nice words about my knitting!
Phew! For a minute there, I thought I might miss my first WIPW. Squeaked it in, though! I can't wait to see how your pincushion turns out. :) If you felt it, be sure to make it a bunch bigger than you want it. It'll shrink up a LOT. You should try it, though. Felting is super fun!
ReplyDeleteChecked out the link for the pin cushion. OMG that is too cute! Added it to my queue .. .might have to make one of those!!
ReplyDeleteLook at all your projects, I miss it already! I bet that pin cushion is going to be awesome!
ReplyDeletePaula, glad you did! With the pincushion, I'm just following the pattern, so it might be a little smaller than I originally wanted, but since it's a pincushion, I think it will be okay.
ReplyDeleteDelusional Knitter, YAY! I'm thinking of maybe doing a KAL/CAL where everyone makes pincushions since we all would use one!
Alea, awww. I probably shouldn't have that many projects! LOL
popgenie, the link in the Mister Linky went to your twitter feed. Did you mean it to? If not, can you post the link you meant to link it with and I can delete this one?
ReplyDeleteI love the color of your hat-- yay for hats!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Aimee! I'm almost finished with it.
