Work-in-Progress Wednesday 22
My life is passing me by. How is it another Wednesday? How is it 2011? Scary, isn't it? I don't have a ton of WIPs to show you (okay, I actually have 3, so that's something, right?) because I've been busy completing projects, which is a good thing I guess. I still have Christmas presents to finish and ship off. My sickness and vacation sure turned that upside down. I feel bad, but then again, we never seem to send gifts to my in-laws on time for some reason. It's so much easier when family lives close and you have the stress of having to give their gifts in person. In the end, it's the thought that counts, right? Who cares if it's a little late. Let's hope they don't. LOL
Another piece of news that I wanted to share. I got a message on Ravelry the other day, Lion Brand wanted to use my reindeer I made last year as one of the pictures on the pattern page for Ravelry! I was SOOOO excited (and still am), maybe a little more excited than that warranted, but LOOK! They used my picture as the second one, right below THEIRS! Cool, right? I always wondered how they picked the pictures for the front pages of patterns. Now I know!
Now on to WIPW 22:
First off, sorry for the crappy picture, but I worked a little on it at my crochet meetup, so I couldn't take the pic until tonight with no lighting! Yep, here's the corgi (even though it doesn't look like one yet)! I haven't done much to it, but still wanted to add it to my WIPs since I'm still working on it. It's coming along good, though not fast since I have to keep changing colors. Normally that doesn't slow me down as much, but it's so small, that it's hard to get my fingers in there to swap the yarn, etc. I hope to have this finished by the weekend so that we can package them up and send them off with the other gifts going to my in-laws in Illinois.
After I finished the first fingerless glove, I didn't work on the second right away because I had all of the Christmas gifts to worry about. Now, I still have Christmas gifts to worry about but the stress has been taken away with them, so I thought it would be nice to have a mate for the first one. I decided to go up a needle size as the first one is a little snug at the finger area where I casted off and in the squishy part of my thumb. I can already see the difference in size, so that's a good thing! I think this one will fit perfect. At least one of my hands will be happy when wearing them. I'm still in love with this yarn color. I wish I could duplicate it again exactly, but unfortunately, with hand-dyed, that's not really possible. That's the blessing and the curse of it, right?
In last week's WIPW, I said I'd hoped to have both dishcloths finished by that post. I didn't get as much knitting done as I thought or wanted to on the trip, so I didn't finish this guy (pattern here). I hope to finish it this week, but we'll see. I don't have THAT much more to go, so if I just sit and concentrate on it, I can probably finish in an afternoon or evening.
For those that are new to WIPW, to share your WIPW post with us, just fill out the Mr. Linky below. Despite it saying you must comment, don't feel as if you do. That is something Mr. Linky automatically adds. I just ask you to check out a few of the links posted to see what everyone else is working on and comment there if you can. Everyone loves feedback and a little encouragement on their projects! Also, please link back to this post in your post to get the word out! The more the merrier!
Your knitting is looking fantastic, I can't believe you only just learnt a few months ago. Can't wait to see all the projects when they are done
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the finished corgi, we had a corgi when I was a little girl and I'd love another.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting that they used your picture for the pattern info, I've had a couple of mine used but they've been for patterns that maybe 3 people have knit so not as impressive!
Have you tried a stretchier cast-off so it won't be so tight? That might help!
ReplyDeleteooh i love the reindeer and I'm excited to see your corgi!! your knitting is wonderful :D
ReplyDeleteI love this link up! Thanks for hosting. :)
ReplyDeletecongratulations about the reindeer! That is *so* exciting!!! I can't wait to see what the corgi looks like when its completed :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome to all the new people! YAY! We have a great community of people who participate in WIPW and FO Friday each week.
ReplyDeleteHalfpint, thank you!!!! Since you mentioned it, I looked back at my first knitting post, which was November 9th! Almost exactly 2 months ago.
Northern Monkey, corgis are amazing, aren't they? My corgi is a year and a half and he's the best dog I've ever had. He's so smart it's freaky and he was never a hyper puppy. I couldn't believe they wanted to use my picture for the reindeer pattern!! :)
Mujercita, do you have a cast off you'd recommend that is stretchier? Since I'm new to knitting, I only know how to do it one way, basically just knitting the row and pulling one stitch over and off the needle. :(
Vicki, thank you!
So Very Domestic, awesome! Thank you for joining in!
SillyLittleLady, thank you! I'm excited too, though I'm not super happy with the head, so I may do that over again.
ReplyDeleteWow, congratulations on the Lion Brand reindeer picture! How awesome is that! I've always wondered how that works.
ReplyDeleteNarwhal Love, thank you! I totally wondered, too. I figured with the small company/individual patterns they just personal messaged the people on Ravelry. Interesting that it comes across as a request. As soon as I hit "accept" the picture showed up on the pattern page!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the reindeer! LOL I'd be excited, too!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the Reindeer picture! That is really cool!
ReplyDeleteI agree about the colors of the fingerless glove. They're beautiful. And here's a stretchy bind off that I really love. I used to have problems while casting off the neck and button/hole strips and this one did wonders http://slipslipknit.com/?page_id=92
Tami, if you google 'surprisingly stretchy cast-off', I think there is an article on Knitty - I haven't tried it, but it's supposed to work.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the reindeer! And your knitting is looking amazing, I can't believe you've not been knitting long. (Corgi is fab too, though ;-) ).
Miriam, thank you!
ReplyDeleteVinita, thank you on the congrats AND on the bind off link!
Susie, thank you! I think I'm going to try the one Vinita sent (comment above you) and then if that doesn't work for me, will see if I can find the surprisingly stretchy one!
Okay, actually, Vinita's link didn't have a video and I'm weirdly a visual video person. I found this one though, it's blurry but I think I'm going to give it a try with my second glove! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bc8dvYVsMMU
ReplyDeleteKathleen, thank you! I'm hoping the corgi turns out perfect, but we'll see. I'm just about to work on it some more. :) Also, thank you regarding the gloves. I actually overdyed it after I did the purples and reds with aqua to get the hints of it!
ReplyDeleteYour reindeer picture is FAB-- congratulations! For the fingerless gloves, I would try Elizabeth Zimmerman's sewn bind off-- it's the easiest stretchy one I know. There's a tutorial on the Knitty website.
ReplyDeleteWow there are more players today! Congrats on the reindeer project! It's always a nice ego boost to see your project featured in the pattern photos.
ReplyDeleteAimee, thank you! That's actually interesting, sewing it instead of casting off with bot needles! Now I have a few ways to try and see which I like the best. :)
ReplyDeleteJoycers, total ego boost! LOL We have a lot of new people today who joined us!
ReplyDeleteLove the fingerless glove project! Did you dye the yarn? It's beautiful.
ReplyDeletePentalia, thank you! I did dye the yarn. You can see the post about it here (toward the bottom of the post): http://tamisamis.blogspot.com/2010/10/randomness-of-week.html
ReplyDeleteCheck you out with your reindeer! That's SUPER cool. I think I'd faint if someone sent me a similar request. Between that and the whole yarn dyeing business, I fully expect you to be famous any minute now. :) Also, biggest WIPW ever -- very cooll!
ReplyDeletePaula, I know, right? If you want my autograph I can send it to you. ;) Yeah, I think the new year has brought a few more people to our parts! I hope it continues!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the reindeer. It's so adorable and highly deserves the honor. Now I can say I know a celebrity! You are really acing through that knitting. Sometimes when I need a stretchier cast on or bind off, I go up 1 or 2 needles sizes and that seems to help.
ReplyDeleteYour really coming along with your knitting. Looking forward to seeing the finish of your mitt and dishcloth.
ReplyDeleteWow, there is many WIP W participants this week.
Beautiful work, Tammy. I love your hand-dyed yarn for the fingerless gloves. Isn't dyeing great? I thought it was a little crazy until I tried it, now I'm hooked.
ReplyDeleteautumngeisha, thanks! Oh, that's an idea with the needles! Knitting is actually started to feel natural for me now, so that's helping I think.
ReplyDeleteDenise, thanks! I know, we've grown by several people this week! Hopefully they stay around. :)
Marushka, thank you! I'm hooked, too! I actually just took yarn out of the crock pot about 30 minutes ago! I love not knowing exactly what it will look like until it fully dries the next day.
I see why they asked for your photo, how exciting!
ReplyDeleteGeknitics, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI know my submission was a bit late, but I worked until 3am. This is my first WIPWednesday offering, what I like to call my "rustic ripple" wool afghan.
ReplyDeletePopgenie, don't worry about being late! I keep the Mr Linky open until the next morning just in case. :) Welcome to WIPW!
ReplyDeleteLooking good! You picked up knitting so fast yay!
ReplyDeleteTami you are doing such a great job with the knitting!! Congrats on the reindeer...yay!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dina! :)
