I can't believe it's Wednesday. The 4 day weeks always screw me up, and this one is no exception. I don't have too much to share, as I'm trying to plug along on the cowl so that I can check it off my list. See, that's the thing about me and lists. My Year of Projects one might seem insanely long (and it is, I don't deny that), but once I put items in a list, I take great joy in crossing them off of said list. That's what made me great at my old day job, as the job was all about lists and organization. Now that a list has been made, I will fight tooth and nail to get them all checked off by next July 1. We'll see how that goes.
Now onto my WIPW:
As you can see, this isn't that exciting. I mean, I have made HUGE progress, and am SO close to being done, but it's just the same two rows repeated over and over. Can you tell I've gotten bored from the same two rows...over and over? LOL, I do like how it's coming out though. I'm about 16" into it, and I get to change it up when I hit 20". I can't wait! Now, to the exciting part. What kind of buttons do you think will look good with this color yarn? Color (and if so, what color?), wood (natural, dark, light?), shiny plastic or dull? Oh, the questions! I hope to have this finished for FO Friday, but we'll see as I have a lot of dyeing to do this week.
I'm also swatching for my Tie Neck Top that I have on my Year of Projects list. I'm using the yarn that the pattern suggests (different colorway). Unfortunately the pattern isn't on ravelry for some reason, so I've linked it to the magazine. It's the shirt on the cover. :)Well, that's it for me this week. What are you working on?

ReplyDeleteI'd use small dark yellow/brown (or pale blue to bring out contrasts in yarn pooling) buttons, wooden preferably, but I'm biased as I love wooden buttons.
The cowl is looking stunning :) I'd go with wooden buttons myself, probably shiny... Actually, I'd take it to the nearest button selling place and try every single one!

The cowl looks great. Did you dye the yarn? I think I'd go for a non shiny button to show off the yarn.

ReplyDeleteI like repeating patterns, so you don't constantly have to look at the pattern, and can stitch while doing other things without giving it tons of concentration. I love how the cowl is coming along, the colors are fabulous. Did I ask you previously what 2 rows you're doing for the pattern? Please share

BTW you can add the pattern for your Tie Top to Rav when you start it and source it back to the magazine you got it from. (it's easier than it sounds)
forgot to add my 2 cents worth on button color, I'd go with a dark purple, shinny, something with a bit of detail.
ReplyDeleteI think the cowl looks great! As for buttons, I always tend to lean towards natural wood buttons - and I'd say something lighter and odd shaped - not your standard round :)

ReplyDeleteWow, the button suggestions are all over the map. I would try metal... maybe in a gunmetal or pewter finish. Or maybe a matte finish dark blue (or whatever that darkest color is). But really, you just have to hold some choices up to the FO and see what looks good. It always surprises me.

I think the cowl looks great - but I know what you mean about 2 rows over and over again. I once made a 7 foot long scarf for my daughter and I thought it would NEVER end - a 4 row repeat. Holy Cow!
ReplyDeleteI think shiney gold buttons with a blue center would look perfect for this piece! The gold would compliment the yellows in the piece and the blue would match so that they looked made for it.
That cowl is coming along! Now, personally, I'd put some super colorful, obnoxious buttons on it hehe, maybe bright neon orange or green!

My mom and I thought that we didn't get enough accomplished during the day, so we started making lists of the things we want to get done the next day, and I love crossing stuff off so much, that I've been doing a lot more.
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty colors for both projects. I would go with either purple buttons or natural wood buttons. It is always a great feeling to check items off a long list, especially when it comes to finishing WIP's.
