Work-in-Progress Wednesday 29

I am back from vacation and very rested, yet injured. Milo pulled me down as we were walking him early in the morning while standing on an icy street. Let's just say, he hates snow plows. I fell on my left wrist, so I didn't get as much knitting/crocheting as I had hoped on the trip. I still had a great time and forgot how much I love snow. We had a great time sledding and just walking through the four feet of snow on the ground. I got to see my first full blown snow fall and it was amazing.

Anyway, here is what I'm working on.

This is the scarf I hoped to finish before/during the trip so I could use it while we were there. Unfortunately, my hurt wrist slowed the progress. I love how it's turning out, even though it's a simple garter stitch. I'm getting used to the very fuzzy yarn, which slowed me down at first. :) I hope to finish it this week for FO Friday if my wrist can handle it.

This is actually a sneak peek (though a very bad picture) of my new self striping dyed yarn. I'm working on the swatch, so I figured I would count that as a WIP. This is my first time knitting with fingering weight yarn and I'm loving it! I'm also in love with the needle, my US 2 Hiya-Hiya. It has a great point and is slippery but not insanely so. I need to have this swatch done for my next Dyeing for Fun post Tuesday, so cross your fingers my wrist holds out between this and the scarf.

For those that are new to WIPW, to share your WIPW post with us, just fill out the Mr. Linky below. Despite it saying you must comment, don't feel as if you do. That is something Mr. Linky automatically adds. I just ask you to check out a few of the links posted to see what everyone else is working on and comment there if you can. Everyone loves feedback and a little encouragement on their projects! Also, please link back to this post in your post to get the word out! The more the merrier!

  1. I love the colours of your self-dyed yarns. They're so bright and cheerful!

Hope your wrist gets better quickly.

  2. I'd include the swatch in your WIP...it is an important part (that I am bad about doing).

The scarf is beautiful. Sometimes the simple garter stitch brings out the beauty of the yarn better than an intricate pattern. Love the color!

  3. Just linked and will be posting later today. Hopefully this will get me spurred on to actually finish all those projects that I've managed to forget about so far ;o)

  6. Yay for vacation! Boo for dog-related injuries! I've had similar experiences, and they're no fun. Hope your wrist is back to full strength soon! Also, that yarn is super yummy! Looking forward to seeing a grown up swatch soon. :)

  9. Maybe if dogs had opposable thumbs they would understand... sorry to hear that you're hurt! I'm impressed that you dyed your own self-striping yarn-- lovely colors.

  12. Tink, thank you!

Wonderwhygal, thanks. I kind of felt the swatch was cheating as a WIP, but then again, it is knitting I'm working on. You're right about the scarf. I originally was going to try to do something a little fancier, but this is perfect for the yarn.

Beatnix, welcome to WIPW! Looking forward to your post.

    Unforth, thank you!

Dutch Hallow, I love purple too. This pic is actually a pretty good representation of the actual yarn color. I bought the yarn online and was SO happy when it came.

Paula, thanks. Silly doggies, though he did feel really bad when he realized I was hurt. He got the guilty doggy look on his face. LOL

    Gertie, thank you!

Sam, YAY for self-striping. It takes awhile to do the whole self-striping hand dyeing process but it's great fun.

Aimee, seriously, though if he had thumbs, I'd have to keep my eye on him 24/7. He's a pretty sneaky guy. LOL

    Leah, thank you!

  13. elephantJuice, thank you! It is very satisfying to watch the scarf grow so quickly. I'm not getting too bored from it either, because it's a difficult yarn to work with so it's keeping me on my toes.

  16. Ouch! That sounds like it hurt! Try not to overuse your wrist too much. Even though the temptation to knit with that gorgeous hand dyed yarn would be irresistible to me. Your scarf is looking great. I'm glad that the yarn is behaving better for you. Now go rest that wrist!

  17. SoCaliMommy, it's not letting me post a comment to your blog. If I click the "Post a comment" link, it just falls to your Swidget and doesn't show an area to type.

  18. Autumngeisha, thanks! I'm one of those stupid people that usually just works through pain, but then complains about it. ;) Maybe I should just take your advice as my husband is telling me the same thing.

Kathleen, thank you! The yarn is SO soft and squishy. My crochet/knitting group was fondling it last night. LOL

wrchili, thank you. I hope I finish it in time too. It's supposed to be chilly and rainy here this weekend, so I'm crossing my fingers.

nursenikkiknits, I love self striping yarn! It's so fun and makes the knitting/crocheting look so much more impressive than it is. LOL Thank you.
