Work in Progress Wednesday 173

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and Black Friday (for those in the US). I apologize that I didn't have FO Friday up. To be honest, my days got all messed up and forgot it was Friday with the holiday and I had family in town. I promise the post will be up this Friday and I'll actually have an FO to share!

I'm plugging along on the project you saw last week, but not too much so I didn't take a picture of it. I'm dividing my time between two Christmas presents so each gradually grows. This is my first time using Knit Picks Dishie yarn, a 100% cotton, and I will say, it's so much better than Sugar or Peach n Cream. My hands don't hurt while knitting (or at least as bad) and the yarn is just a lot silkier.  The stitch definition isn't great, but when is it ever with cotton? I'll be using this yarn for one more project coming up. :)

This is a new project to the blog I believe. I'm using Candy Skein Savory fingering in Poppyseed. This is a fingerless glove I'm making for my husband (hopefully he isn't reading this). He takes the train to and from work, and his commute is long. I thought he could use these waiting for the train in the morning and night this winter. Funny enough, I was at knit group last night working on this as he texted he was freezing waiting for the train. We all had a good laugh. If he only knew. ;) This is Dustland Mitts by Stephen West and it's a very fast and fun pattern. I've only really worked on it a few hours and I'm almost finished with one mitt/fingerless glove! I only have the thumb left! It's pretty baggy on me, so I hope it fits! (Sorry for the bad picture!)

That's it for me today. I hope you have a great rest of the week and I'll "see" you here on Friday!

Work in Progress Wednesday 172

Hi everyone and happy early Thanksgiving to everyone in the US! If you live in the States, I bet you're frantically trying to make sure you have everything you need for the big day. That's my plan for the day! I'll be baking gluten free bread, making gluten free pumpkin pies from scratch and stuffing.

I don't have too much to share today, as I finished my second Hogwarts Express shawl of the month. I'll be sharing it on Friday once it's lightly blocked.

I did start a new project, but this is also a gift so I won't be sharing it too much on the blog. Sorry the picture is blurry but my phone only wanted to focus on the table.  I'm using Knit Pick Dishie for the first time, a 100% cotton yarn. I'm not too far along, but I really like it so far. I'm not the biggest fan of cotton, but this is not as hard on the hands (or so it seems) as some big box store cotton like Peaches and Cream. It feels a little silkier, in my opinion.

Not that this has anything to do with WIPW, but I just wanted to say, I LOVED Catching Fire! I actually saw it twice in 48 hours. My friend Alea and I ended up exchanging our Friday night tickets for Friday day tickets, which meant that my husband wouldn't get to see it. We knew we'd just be way too tired to go to the movie at 10pm. I'm so glad we changed our plans because not only was it good to be fully awake, but I got to see it twice. I went with my husband on Sunday and it was almost better the second time around if that's possible. If you haven't seen it, do so! I think it's just as good or better than the first Hunger Games movie. This is coming from someone who ADORES the books and owns them both in hardback and ebook.

Well, that's it for me today. I hope you have a great rest of the week, Thanksgiving (if you celebrate it) and I'll see you on Friday!

FO Friday 103

Happy Friday!!! I hope you all are excited for the weekend and have great things planned. My husband and I are looking at houses (to buy) on Saturday, which is always fun and on Sunday we're either going to the beach or going apple picking! I know, very different things. I must say, I'm SUPER excited about apple picking. I've never gone before (I know, shocking right?) and it's always been one of those things I've wanted to do. I always joke that I want to be an apple picker in another life. I know it doesn't sound glamorous but something about it makes me want to try it.

As I mentioned, Thursday a few great friends of mine (from my knitting group) and I went to a few yarn stores. We ended up going to three different ones (all new to me) and then had lunch by the beach. You can check out my Instagram for the pics (and to see what I bought) at @candyskein or you can check out the Candy Skein twitter feed to see the same pics! We had great fun!

I tried to take a picture of my socks on with Doctor Who in the background but it's hard to get a picture of your tv (with an orange background!)

I give you my Doctor Who socks!!!!!!!

THREE WEEKS in a row people. Can you believe it? That might just be a record for me for FO Friday!

I made them with an afterthought heel. The cuff and foot (minus the heel) is only off by ONE row in the stripes. Crazy, right?? It wasn't as hard to match them up as I thought. The heels are slightly different for a few reasons. A) it was hard to match the brown up to start the heel where it was on the first sock since it wasn't at the beginning of the brown. B) the first gusset area was a little tight, so I added a few more rows to the heel before the decrease on the second sock and also went down a few more stitches in the decrease before kitchnering the toe. Both are very wearable obviously, but I may just add a few more rows to the tighter one. Next time I do after thought heels I'll know the exact amount of rows I need to get it right for both socks, as this was my friend time.

For all my notes on how I made these socks (I didn't use a pattern), you can visit my project page where I left the notes on Ravelry!

Materials used:

Yarn: Knit Picks Felici in Time Traveler (two balls)
Needles: 2.5 MM
Pattern: No pattern. After thought heel

That's it for me! I hope you all have a great weekend!

Yarn Diet '11- The Second Month & First Yarn Purchase

Holy smokes, it's March. I can't believe it. I didn't even really update for February because it flew by so quickly! Anyway, I thought I would give you an update on my yarn diet and also show pictures of the lovely yarn that I spent way too much money on this week. That being said, it was my first yarn purchase of the year (and of the diet) so I'm sitting pretty. :) I probably would have lasted a little longer, but couldn't resist the new Knit Picks Felici and Chroma yarn.

Here are my stats:

Skeins used in the month of February: 2
Total skein count left: 239 (not counting the new yarn)
Total FOs completed in February: 1 (ouch, not good)
Total yarn purchases in February: 1 (though it didn't arrive until March, but will count it in February since the money came out of my account then).
Total purchase remaining: 4

Now, on to the FUN part, the YARN!!!!!!!!!! As I mentioned, I splurged. Oops. I do have project ideas for a lot of it, so that helps, right?

This is what I ordered:
