FO Friday 38

Happy Friday! This week went FAST and I'm very excited that it's the weekend. We're going to be hanging out at the beach on Saturday (which we usually do at least one weekend day) if the weather is warm enough. It's supposed to be in the high 60's, so let's hope they're wrong and it's a little warmer! Sunday we are heading to Ink-N-Iron which should be awesome. We've always wanted to go but have never gotten the chance until this year. It's in Long Beach, at the Queen Mary. It will be fun to just walk around, check out the car show and listen to music. After that, we'll probably head to one of our favorite Tiki Bars that is in that area, Don the Beachcombers. We don't get over there as much as we'd like, so it will be nice to get a bite to eat and a few drinks while there. One of my favorite So Cal yarn stores, Alamitos Bay Yarn Company, is in the area as well, so I hope to get a chance to stop by. I'd love to get my hands on some Malabrigo Sock or Madelinetosh Lace. We'll see, since they are only open a few hours on Sundays. With all that going on, I hope to have a chance to get some knitting done, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Now on to awesomeness! That's right.... I FINISHED MY FIRST PAIR OF SOCKS!!!!! I'm super happy about it. They fit nice, though a little loose for shoes. They'll be my house socks, due to the fact that I used size US 3 needles. They are crazy comfortable, and really don't want to take them off! I guess I will have to at some point to wash them. LOL The yarn is crazy soft and I have quite a bit of it left. I still have to weigh it, but I have no idea what to do with it. Any ideas?

Materials Used:

Knit Picks Harmony Needles (US 3) w/ 32" cable
Knitting Fever Indulgence with Aloe (colorway 114)
Tapestry needle
Pattern (I didn't really use a pattern, but just made it up as I went along, using online videos to learn how to knit each part)

I hope everyone has an amazing weekend! Share your FOs!

  14. Love the socks! What sort of heel did you use? Also, you can make a sock yarn scrap blanket with the left overs if you'd like.

  16. Vanessa, thanks! I used the normal column heel. On the Blackberry pair, I did eye of the partridge though. :) Not sure which I like better.

  17. Love the socks, but oh how non fraternal socks drive me crazy! That's why I don't knit socks anymore. That and the fact it takes as many stitches as a shawl, in some cases, to make a finished pair.

  18. Chris, that's funny! I've heard people go both ways. They like when they are fraternal, as it gives them character, or those who can't stand it! I don't mind. :)

  19. As one who was never going to make socks I understand. I love those little works of art. Have a great weekend. I was at Alamitos Yarn in April when I was visiting a friend in SoCal and loved it. Wanted it to be my LYS. Loved the separate room they have for classes and casual knitting.

  20. Napiligal, thanks! Have a great weekend, too! Isn't Alamitos yarn amazing! I said the same thing to my husband, I wish it was my LYS! Unfortunately it's about an hour and 30 minutes away from me. :( At least I get to visit every few months. I love the vibe and the yarn selection is amazing. It has to be in my top 2 or 3 in so cal.

  21. Oh, the socks look great! Congrats on finishing your first pair!! Have a wonderful weekend. I hope it's warm enough for the beach -- but still pleasant inland. ;)

  22. Your purple socks rock! Now on to the next pair...what color will they be?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Contessa, thanks! Yes, it shouldn't get too hot inland! I live inland as well. Right now it's raining and 60, so a little warm would be nice! Is it raining there?

  24. Ally, thanks! I actually have three pair going right now. LOL An orange pair, a striped pair that's blues and greens and a blackberry pair!

    ReplyDelete
  25. BTW, you should make some video game inspired yarn! ;)

  26. Apologies, my link didn't seem to work the first two times I added it - I hope it works out! I'm loving the socks! You are a sock knitting machine!!!

  27. Congrats on the socks!! I wear a size 6 so I never use up all the yarn plus I like to make my toes and heels in a solid color. This way when I need to make a new heel or toe I can see exactly where I need to pick up the stitches to make the new one.

I save up all my left overs and then combine them together and make wide strips. These turn out to be quite interesting.

    Happy Fiber Arts Friday!

  28. It's RAINING?! *looks outside to blue sky* We don't even have CLOUDS right now. I've got windows open and it's 73 in here with an occasional cool breeze. (This sounds perfect but personally, I like gloom and rain.)
