Work-in-Progress Wednesday 48

I can't believe it's Wednesday. The 4 day weeks always screw me up, and this one is no exception. I don't have too much to share, as I'm trying to plug along on the cowl so that I can check it off my list. See, that's the thing about me and lists. My Year of Projects one might seem insanely long (and it is, I don't deny that), but once I put items in a list, I take great joy in crossing them off of said list. That's what made me great at my old day job, as the job was all about lists and organization. Now that a list has been made, I will fight tooth and nail to get them all checked off by next July 1. We'll see how that goes.

Now onto my WIPW:

As you can see, this isn't that exciting. I mean, I have made HUGE progress, and am SO close to being done, but it's just the same two rows repeated over and over. Can you tell I've gotten bored from the same two rows...over and over? LOL, I do like how it's coming out though. I'm about 16" into it, and I get to change it up when I hit 20". I can't wait! Now, to the exciting part. What kind of buttons do you think will look good with this color yarn? Color (and if so, what color?), wood (natural, dark, light?), shiny plastic or dull? Oh, the questions! I hope to have this finished for FO Friday, but we'll see as I have a lot of dyeing to do this week.

I'm also swatching for my Tie Neck Top that I have on my Year of Projects list. I'm using the yarn that the pattern suggests (different colorway). Unfortunately the pattern isn't on ravelry for some reason, so I've linked it to the magazine. It's the shirt on the cover. :)

Well, that's it for me this week. What are you working on?

Please remember to use the new link to your post from this week, overriding the one that Mr. Linky saves from the previous. I've had quite a few links still linking to their old posts, or links that go straight to their blog's URL instead of the actual posts URL. Thanks!

For those that are new to WIPW, to share your WIPW post with us, just fill out the Mr. Linky below. Despite it saying you must comment, don't feel as if you do. That is something Mr. Linky automatically adds. I just ask you to check out a few of the links posted to see what everyone else is working on and comment there if you can. Everyone loves feedback and a little encouragement on their projects! Also, please link back to this post in your post to get the word out! The more the merrier!

  1. Your cowl looks lovely!
I'd use small dark yellow/brown (or pale blue to bring out contrasts in yarn pooling) buttons, wooden preferably, but I'm biased as I love wooden buttons.

  2. The cowl is looking stunning :) I'd go with wooden buttons myself, probably shiny... Actually, I'd take it to the nearest button selling place and try every single one!

  3. Super projects, I am the same way with lists, it feels so good to cross stuff off them :)

  4. Looking great, Tami!

I'm also a list-freak. Sadly I'm already looking at my YoP list and wishing I'd added a few more things... but at least that will mean I can have different things for WIPW and YoP now!!!

  5. The cowl looks great. Did you dye the yarn? I think I'd go for a non shiny button to show off the yarn.

  7. The knitting is looking great. My WIP this week is spinning that's in process. July is going to be all about spinning, Tour de Fleece and the Team of Wonder.

  8. Love the colors of your cowl! I've only shown one of my WIP's as the other is at my office. I work on one project at work and the other at home. I am hoping by Friday to have my shawl done.

  9. As always, you have great color selection Tami!

  10. The colours in your cowl are so pretty. I'm not much help in choosing buttons, I always find that one of most difficult things!

  11. I made a couple of knitted scarves using the one row lace pattern, & that was kind of the same thing - came out pretty, but man you do have to force yourself to finish!

  12. Oh, I've been eyeing that top... yours is going to look awesome!

  13. Actually I'm cheating this week, as I've left the lead for my camera at home and can't upload any crochet pics! Blah!

Love the colours in the yarn you're using for your cowl!

  14. The two rows over and over thing is exactly why I don't put up pictures of the Strangling Vines Scarf anymore, only it's four rows over and over. :)

  15. The cowl looks great, I still love, love, love those colors!

  16. The cowl looks awesome - I'm thinking shiny yellow buttons....

  17. I like repeating patterns, so you don't constantly have to look at the pattern, and can stitch while doing other things without giving it tons of concentration. I love how the cowl is coming along, the colors are fabulous. Did I ask you previously what 2 rows you're doing for the pattern? Please share

  18. Your cowl is looking great. I'm sorry it's boring you, but you're almost done!
I'm thinking wooden buttons in the same tone as the caramel colour in the cowl. Probably not too shiny.
I can't wait to see what you come up with.
BTW you can add the pattern for your Tie Top to Rav when you start it and source it back to the magazine you got it from. (it's easier than it sounds)

  19. forgot to add my 2 cents worth on button color, I'd go with a dark purple, shinny, something with a bit of detail.

  20. I think the cowl looks great! As for buttons, I always tend to lean towards natural wood buttons - and I'd say something lighter and odd shaped - not your standard round :)

As for lists - I am the same way. I looooooove to see a list get smaller and smaller :)

  21. I love crossing things off lists, its one a my favourite things!
Your cowl is looking lovely, I think maybe brass buttons would look good!
I also love colour for your tie top!

  22. I love the colours you have chosen, I think dark wood buttons would look nice with it :)

  23. The top is going to be awesome. Can't wait to see your progress on it!

  24. Love the way the cowl is working up - I'd be tempted by natural buttons I think but I'm never sure until I get to the market :)

  25. Wow, the button suggestions are all over the map. I would try metal... maybe in a gunmetal or pewter finish. Or maybe a matte finish dark blue (or whatever that darkest color is). But really, you just have to hold some choices up to the FO and see what looks good. It always surprises me.

BTW, I'm not putting up a WIP post today. Don't like the latest color in my rug, so it's gotta be frogged a bit and reworked.

  26. I think the cowl looks great - but I know what you mean about 2 rows over and over again. I once made a 7 foot long scarf for my daughter and I thought it would NEVER end - a 4 row repeat. Holy Cow!
I think shiney gold buttons with a blue center would look perfect for this piece! The gold would compliment the yellows in the piece and the blue would match so that they looked made for it.

  27. That cowl is coming along! Now, personally, I'd put some super colorful, obnoxious buttons on it hehe, maybe bright neon orange or green!

  28. The cowl is SO pretty. . . And I'm in a similar spot with my current WIP (only it's the same row over and over, with the same one stitch over and over). You're probably much closer to the exciting part than I am.

The yarn you're going to use in the Tie Neck Top is absolutely gorgeous. :)

  29. Paula, thanks! Great suggestions on the buttons. I have a bunch of vintage ones that may fit the bill. Only problem is I need 5.

Pinkundine, thank you! I think I may have to cheat and call it a FO Friday, sans buttons. We'll see. I don't want to rush it.

Alittlebitsheepish, isn't it a weird rush to cross stuff off? LOL So funny.

Sarah, thanks. With the rules, you can add new stuff, so no worries!

Clare, thank you! Nope, this is actually a skein of Malabrigo worsted. :) Lovely lovely yarn.

    Elisabeth, thank you!

WonderWhyGal, thanks! No issues with that. I love your spinning posts!

FoFo, awesome! Just think, it will be a surprise to see the project that's been at work for us once you're finished. :)

    Marie, thank you!

Genki, thanks. This is one of my first time having to choose buttons, so I'm a little apprehensive.

Anastasia, wow, a scarf! I don't think I could handle that. LOL

Stacey, thanks! Is it a new magazine or something? Seems like there isn't much about it on Ravelry/online.

  30. Tintocktap, no problem! We all cheat on WIPW and FO Friday from time to time. ;)

Calophi, totally! I think if this was any longer, I'd stop posting pics so I didn't bore you all. LOL

Delusional Knitter, thanks! I love this yarn, too. <3

witchyknits4ewe, ooo, good idea. I'm going to definitely have to dig through my buttons and see what I have.

Sandy, it's a pattern called Pedestrian Crossing Cowl on ravelry. Sorry I forgot to share that! Thanks for the button suggestions!

Nikki, thanks for the info. I've never done that with a pattern, so I'm glad to hear it's easy to do!

Cris, thanks! I'm loving all the list love here. It's awesome. Glad to know I'm not the only crazy. ;)

Sam, thanks! Ooo, brass would look great!

Mamgi, thanks for the kind words and suggestion!

    Keri, thanks!

Saffy, I think a trip to Joann's is definitely in order. LOL

Pentalia, thanks for stopping by despite no WIP! Seriously, they are ALL over the map. LOL

Liz, thanks! I hope I can find the right color without much trouble!

sillylittlelady, you rebel you! ;) Love the idea!

    wypad, thank you!

  31. oohhh looks fab, i would say light wooden buttons :) x

  32. The cowl looks great. I love the colors! I can see it with light wooden buttons. I love crossing stuff off lists too. My mom and I thought that we didn't get enough accomplished during the day, so we started making lists of the things we want to get done the next day, and I love crossing stuff off so much, that I've been doing a lot more.

  33. Such pretty colors for both projects. I would go with either purple buttons or natural wood buttons. It is always a great feeling to check items off a long list, especially when it comes to finishing WIP's.

  34. I know what you mean, I love crossing things off a list! Your cowl is beautiful, such gorgeous colors!

    Shannon

P.S. I can't believe I'm number 50 on mr. linky! I usually try to visit everyone's blogs, but it's getting harder, which I think is a good thing!

  35. I'm also a huge fan of list making for the pure joy of crossing items off the list!

  36. I'm sorry it's boring you, but I love the colors in your cowl!

  37. Love the yarn colors you're using on both your projects. It's funny, I'd rather do boring stockinette than a boring two row pattern. I agree wood buttons would look good.

Asking for prayers and positive thoughts. My Dammit bunny is very sick.

  38. The cowl is fabulous. I vote for wood buttons, the bigger the better.

(Did you ever imagine WIP Wednesday having 61 people on the list? We'll need to add more days between Wed & Fri to get around and read them all!)
