Work-in-Progress Wednesday 81
Hi everyone!!! I hope you're all doing great. I've been very busy lately, which makes time FLY by. I can't believe it's another WIPW!
I've been working on just about everything here and there so a ton doesn't look like it's gotten done on each piece of knitting, but it has!
I've worked a little on the Time Traveler socks. Here's a picture but you can't really tell I'm sure. LOL Still, I thought I'd take a picture of them since you haven't seen them for awhile. You may remember, this will be my first after thought heel. You can see the orange yarn in the brown stripe that is the placeholder for those stitches.
I've also worked on my Rhombi sweater and I PROMISE you that it will be finished for FO Friday next week. I don't think I can finish and block it for this Friday. I'm super excited and nervous to finish it. I had been putting it off, not wanting to ruin it. For some reason I had this mental block about picking up the stitches for the front and neck. I'll be starting that today! My husband this weekend said, "what happened to the cardigan?" When I told him why I hadn't been working on it, he said, "you just need to work on it. It's your first sweater. If it's not perfect that's okay." So, when we got home from running errands, I got it out and started working on it again. He's right, it doesn't need to be perfect. Some knitters' first sweaters aren't even wearable! :) Since I'm so close to being finished, I won't post a picture so that you can see it when it's finished.
This is a new project for me. As I mentioned on Friday, I cast on new socks! These are my first pair of Cookie A socks. I've LOVED her patterns but they all seem pretty hard since I haven't tried cables yet. I got the book Knit. Sock. Love by Cookie A and realized that the pattern Monkey isn't cables! So I started it with a size US 2 needles. The ribbing turned out HUGE for some reason. I'm sure not if it's because of the twisted stitches. I frogged it and then used a US 1, but now I think they're too small. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Do I keep going? I'm using the Candy Skein January Monthly Sock Club colorway, Arctic Mint.
That's it for me. Have a great day!

I love that look of the time traveller socks
ReplyDeleteYou'll love the after thought heel! I just did my first 2 pairs of socks with that last week and it seems to go much faster than the usual heel flap/turn/gusset routine!
ReplyDeleteYou can always do the ribbing i one needle size then switch once you start the leg. Some people do this on every pair they knit. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteLove the stripes in the first sock. As to sizing on the others, not clue! Hope you figure it out. Such lovely yarn deserves a well knit sock!
ReplyDeleteTurquoise socks! I have a skein of turquoise yarn staring at me, waiting to become socks. Yours look beautiful. Time traveller socks are going to be fabulous too!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see how the Arctic Mint knits up. I hope they fit properly!
ReplyDeleteLovely stripes, I really love the stripes. Ooo and the yellow is eyecatching:)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous stripes! If you're not sure about the sizing on the others, I'd listen to your instinct.... unless you have someone else to give them to if they are too small...?
ReplyDelete(I've made a mess with my link - the first attempt I put the wrong link up - sorry about that!)
xxx
My first sweater had 2 entirely different sized sleeves. I didn't even realize it until it was completely done! I have kept it all these years just to remind myself that there it a lot of learning in mistakes. I will be cheering you on to get yours done.
ReplyDeleteI love the time traveler socks. Sometimes i wish I had the confidence to tackle knitting socks....can you suggest anything for a novice sock knittter? x
ReplyDeleteLove the time traveler socks.
ReplyDeleteLove the stripes on the socks!
ReplyDeleteYour husband is very wise - I haven't made a perfect anything yet.
ReplyDeleteTwisted stitches will make the rib more prominent. Now that you've switched to smaller needles if the cuff is too small then you absolutely have to rip out. (sorry) I knit mine on size 2 needles and they were fine. Pretty, pretty colour!
I wish I could knit socks! Since I just started teaching myself, I am too afraid to venture onto anything other than dishcloths. :) These are wonderful though!
ReplyDeleteYour husband is a wise man!
ReplyDeleteLove the stripe on those socks!
ReplyDeletePerfection is overrated :p
ReplyDeleteMy current socks are on Us 1.5s, and I'm loving them... Maybe you need ribbing on smaller needles and the rest of the sock on 2s?
Love those socks!!
ReplyDeleteLoving the stripes
ReplyDeleteMonkey was one of my first "patterned" socks ... I love that pattern! It looks so much more complicated than it really is--you'll find that it flies off the needles! (yummy blue yarn!!)
ReplyDeleteI love the colours!
ReplyDeleteThe colors in the socks are awesome!
ReplyDeleteI love those stripes, they are so colourful and pretty :)
ReplyDelete*raising hand* First sweater? Totally not wearable. But it's okay. And yours totally will be wearable. And I'm SO excited to finish. Props to hubby for being right. :) And about the socks... I've knit every pair on size 1 with the exception of the duckies I'm just finishing, but those are sport weight. I think you'll be good on size 1s here. Oh! And I'm taking a class from Cookie A at Stitches on Friday. So excited!!
ReplyDeleteLove the socks! And, thanks for letting me link!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed with your knitting skills! Sometimes I wish I could learn, but that would probably just double the amount of unfinished projects I have lying around. ;) Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteMy wip for this week is also socks. I love the yarn you are using for the monkey socks! Keep going with your first sweater! I made a cardigan back when I was 15 and a newbie, and it was NOT wearable at all. Luckily after picking up the needles again a while ago my current "first [wearable] sweater project" is going MUCH better!
ReplyDeleteMy first THREE sweaters we're wearable, but you seem to have much more help than I did. If you got gauge and followed directions, it should be great! I think it will be.:)
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I have participated in your WIP Wednesday. I'm kinda excited about it!!!
ReplyDelete<3 Jenn
Those socks look like a lot of fun as well as being bright and warm for cold toes. Loving the blues.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
I love the Time Traveller socks! Arctic Mint looks like a wonderful colour too.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what I'd do for the Cookie A socks. You could try knitting the rib with one size needle and the rest of the sock in another? Or perhaps knit the rib with the larger needle and work some elastic though it so that it grips more?
