FO Friday 111

Hi everyone and happy Friday!! 10 years ago today, my husband and I officially started dating! Isn't it crazy how time flies??!! Sometimes it seems like I've known him my whole life (we've known each other for 12 years), other times it seems like we just started dating. Back on November 2, 2002, we went to a wedding together and had a great time. I would have never guessed back then that we would be where we are now, but I'm sure glad that I started dating (and married 5 years later) my best friend. :)

Enough with the sappy stuff! Sorry to derail the blog. I don't have a FO today unfortunately, as I've been SO busy with my studio and re-stocking candyskein.com. I'll have big updates next week including new Yummy fingering, Yummy DK, Delicious fingering and a mini set!

This weekend on Sunday a few girls from my knitting group and I will be going to the Southern California Handweavers' Guild Weaving and Fiber Festival (wow that's a mouthful!) in Torrence, CA. If you're going and see me (I'll try and remember to wear a few Candy Skein buttons!) please say hi! I might even have a prize for anyone who recognizes me. :) Unfortunately, I won't have a booth this year there, but hope to next year. I'll tell you all about it next week, but I'm going to be strong and not buy yarn (I hope). We'll see how I do!

What are your big plans this weekend?

Work in Progress Wednesday 117

Hi everyone! Happy Halloween!!!!!!!!! Today I'm going to do a duel post, and I hope you don't mind. Not only do I have a new WIP, it has to do with a new Candy Skein colorway, the November '12 Sock colorway, Pumpkin Pie. I figured it made sense to put these two posts into one.

First off, I want to hear what great things everyone is doing for Halloween! My husband will (hopefully) be coming home early so we can pass out candy and watch scary movies in our new house. We might have a few friends over, too, which is going to be a blast! We don't know what to expect as far as Trick or Treaters go so we bought a LOT of candy. Everyone in the neighborhood decked out their house with decorations so I hope we get a lot!

Before I show you my WIP, I have to show you the yarn!

Thanksgiving in the US is one of my favorite times of year. By the end of November, it’s finally chilly where I live and family and friends find time to stop their busy schedules to spend the holiday together. As much as I love Thanksgiving dinner, to me it’s all about dessert. Each year, my husband and I make gluten free pumpkin pie from scratch (yes, we use real pie pumpkins AND make the crust from scratch) and I love making them as much as I love eating them.

That’s why I picked Pumpkin Pie as the November 2012 colorway! This awesome yarn is kettle dyed in three different layers of light beige, light copper brown and deep copper to give it a modeled look when knit/crocheted. It would be perfect for any project!

Colorway: Pumpkin Pie
Fiber content: 75% Merino Wool, 25% Nylon Superwash
Weight: Fingering Weight
Yardage: 465 yards
Unit Weight: 100 grams
Care: Machine wash/Tumble dry low
Price: $20
Available here now!

Okay, now that we got that out of the way, I can show you what I started with the colorway!

I decided to do 2x2 ribbed socks, since I have a lot of other projects on the go. This needs no thought and is a great project to work on while I'm waiting for the yarn to dye during the day. I'm making the pair for my husband, but SHHHhhhh he doesn't know! I'm going to carry the ribbing down into the instep. Isn't the colorway pretty knitted up!!?? I'm loving the modeled look so far!

That's it for me today! Please have a fun AND safe Halloween tonight!

FO Friday 110

I am SOOOO sorry! I scheduled to post this today, but I forgot to set the time for 12am!!!!!! It was schedule to post at 10:30pm, when I wrote it!

Hi everyone! Happy Friday. I don't have a FO this week unfortunately. :( I hope to next week if I get more time to knit. I do have some fun news though! Candy Skein is now on Facebook! Be sure to 'like' Candy Skein here to get updates, news, exclusive contests and more!! I'm really excited to finally being able to offer a fun and easy way to deliver Candy Skein news (well, other than the Ravelry group and this blog!)

Since I don't have a FO, I feel like I need to leave you with some kind of picture, so here is a sneak peak of my studio that I shared on Instagram and Facebook today! As mentioned, I'll be posting pictures of the before, after and in between pictures soon here on the blog! There is a lot more work to do to make it completely set, but I'm soo excited. As you read this (after 8am PT at least) I'll be dancing on the floors for the first time as I do a happy dance while moving in all my stuff to start working! Despite it not being 100% finished, it's kind of fitting I get to move into the space on FO Friday, isn't it??!! Let the dyeing begin!!!!!

Work in Progress Wednesday 116

Hi everyone!!! I hope you had a great weekend and are having an even greater week. I've been busy with electrians, plumbers and my family in town to help build out Candy Skein studios. I will have a bunch of pictures (which you can see on Instagram right now...username Candyskein) in a post coming up in the Life as an Indie Dyer series soon!

As a sneak peak, I thought I would share this picture, which is the outside of the studio. It's a separate bungalow on my new property, steps away from my laundry/mud room and master bedroom. A beautiful courtyard separates everything. It only shares one wall, which is the garage.

The inside was a little rough when we bought the house, but wait until you see it finished! Stay tuned for pictures of the whole process.

Now on to what you've been waiting for. As mentioned, I haven't had much time to knit recently, but I figured I'd share this picture with you anyway. :) This is the Quaker Ridge Shawlette and I'm using Madelinetosh Tosh Sock in Worn Denim. I've done the set up and two full repeats. For those wondering, I did end up ripping out the shawl and starting over because of that extra stitch. I wasn't very far along, and I think it would have always bugged me.
