Work in Progress Wednesday 198

Good morning everyone. I'm sorry to post this so late for you on Wednesday, but I was at Disneyland yesterday for a friend's 40th birthday and didn't get a chance to type it up. I hope you're all doing great. I'm doing pretty good! My hockey team that I live and breathe is one win away from the Stanley Cup, I was just at Disneyland, my husband is done with insane overtime (for the time being) and tonight I'm headed to LA. Not too shabby!

I've decided to get a jump on Christmas gift this year, and to begin with I decided to make my brother in law a Sockhead. Okay, okay, maybe it was just another excuse to start another one. Anyway, I'm using Candy Skein Savory in colorway Oyster this time and I LOVE how it's turning out. Since he has a bigger head than I do, I'm using 144 sts. Isn't it so so pretty? I sure hope it fits!

And while I was at it, I started this gorgeous shawl/stole/scarf for my mother in law for Christmas. I'm using Candy Skein Savory in Oatmeal Cookie and Plum. The pattern is called Diffraction Shawl. It's a gorgeous pattern and weirdly addicting despite it being a boring knit. You cast on a LOT of stitches using Judy's Magic Cast On, and weirdly, when I KtBL for the second needle on the first row, my stitches ended up twisted. I'm not sure how I cast on without twisting them. Very bizarre. I'm hoping it will block out and not be as noticeable. I wish you could see this thing in person. The Plum is amazing. I'll try and get a better picture of it next week. It's now close to 500 sts! Yikes! HA!

That's it for me today. I hope you have a great rest of your week. GO KINGS!

Work in Progress 185

Hi everyone. I hope all is well! Sorry I forgot about FO Friday last week. I meant to post the Mister Linky despite not having a FO, but it slipped my mind. I hope you all had a great weekend.

Here's an update on my sock yarn blanket, with bonus cat butt. HA! She decided to lay down just as I put the blanket out to take the picture. As you can see on the left, I've started to add squares to the side. I'm going to be adding to the left side, but won't on the right yet, because I'm not 100% sure it's the width I like. Right now it's 13 squares wide. It's about the size of a one person lap blanket. I think a few more squares added to the width would be best, but right now I am focusing on just making it deeper. I am so in love with it so far! It's a great mindless project that I pick up when I don't feel like I want to commit to my knitting at the time.

I'm sure you don't remember this. I started this Herbivore shawl by Stephen West back in May of last year, and I bought the yarn, Tosh Sock in Spectrum, at Stitches West 2013. I decided to pick it up again this week and am close to finishing it soon. I took this picture Tuesday afternoon, and worked on it all Tuesday night. I've finished as far as the size based on the pattern, but since I have a bit of yarn left, I'm trying to squeeze out a little more. I can't wait to see this off the needles.

That's it for me. I hope you have a great rest of the week. I hope to have my shawl done for Friday! See you then.

Work in progress 182

Hi everyone. I hope you're having a good week. I've been super busy this week, as Stitches is this weekend.  I'm not a vendor, but since I won't be working Thursday and Friday, I have extra on my plate at the start of the week.

Speaking of Stitches, I'll try and schedule a FO Friday post before I leave so you guys can still post your links. I should be posting a lot of pictures to my Instagram account, @candyskein, if you're interested in following.

This week I haven't had too much knitting time, so I just worked on my Sock Yarn Blanket. It's actually getting quite big considering I only started it 13 days ago. It's a great addicting project that uses up yarn I never thought I would use. Unfortunately, it's also caused me to buy yarn. I'll be looking for mini skeins at Stitches for it, as I plan not to buy too much full skein yarn. If you're looking for a fun project that's pretty portable (you can make single squares and connect them later on, or do little blocks of squares and connect them later), look no further. The only problem is you have to be pretty patient because it takes a LOT of sock yarn to finish this thing. I plan to work on it quite some time.

That's it for me today.  I hope you have a great rest of the week.

Work in Progress Wednesday 181

Hi everyone! I hope your week is going like you want it to. Since I last "talked" to you last week, I have been knitting crazy. Funny enough, it's not exactly from what you'd think.

You see, I'm addicted to my new project that I started last week, the Sock Yarn Blanket. Insane, right? I started this last Wednesday night, so it hasn't even been a week. Not only have I made these squares you see, I have also made two more not pictured, as I made them after I took this (and I wove in the ends).

I can't remember if I've shared this hat yet, but it's the From Norway with Love. I've been wanting to knit this hat since I started knitting and never got around to it. I've had this yarn in my stash for several years, when I bought it on vacation in northern California. It's Blue Sky Sport 100% alpaca. So far this is a very fun knit.

That's it for me today. I hope you all have a great rest of your week.

Work in Progress 166

Hi everyone! I apologize for last week. I set WIPW and FO Friday to post while I was on vacation, but it didn't post for some reason. By the time I realized, it was already Friday evening. We had a great time in Las Vegas and the fiber festival went great this past weekend.

On the way to Vegas, my husband was kind enough to drive, so I was able to work on my Candy Corn sock, and also got a little done on Sunday morning after the booth set up but before the festival opened.

I finished the heel turn and picking up the side stitches on the flap for the gusset. I'm only a few rows into decreasing for the gusset, but I love the way it looks so far. I can't wait to finish this pair to wear them! Of course, I have to finish the first sock first.

That's it for me today. I hope you have a great rest of the week and I'll see you Friday!

Work in Progress Wednesday 150

Holy smokes, 150 Work in Progress Wednesdays. That's incredible, right? I never thought when I started doing this I would still be doing it 150 weeks later. Crazy.

This week I'm working on a new sock. It's my go to pattern when I don't want to do something fancy but want a little more than a regular vanilla sock. It's Hermione's Everyday Socks and this is the 3rd time I've made them. I'm making it because I'm testing a new yarn I'll be carrying for Candy Skein soon! It will be called Savory Fingering and so far I like it! It has a twist similar to Tosh Sock and is a 80/20 merino superwash/nylon blend. I figured I'd make a pattern I"m really familiar with so I can compare this yarn to Yummy fingering. Don't worry, Yummy fingering won't be going away, this will just be a new option!

That's it for me. I'll be writing FO Friday tomorrow as we're headed to LA for a Neil Gaiman talk/signing! I can't freakin' wait!!!

Work in Progress Wednesday 149

Hi everyone! Happy Wednesday. I hope you're all doing great. Another busy week for me, as I'm preparing for the trunk show/talk for the San Diego Knitter's Guild. I've also been updating the stock on the website, so if you've been waiting for a certain color in Yummy fingering or Sweet fingering, it's probably back in stock, including Tardis Tart Ombre!

Please excuse the pajama pants! HA! At least they're Candy Skein colors. ;) As you can see, I'm about half way down my foot. It's the easy, yet boring knitting part. I kept the 2x2 ribbing continuing on the instep, and then just stockinette on the bottom of course. I used the Eye of the Partridge heel and love how the yarn patterned itself over it! I really do love this sock!! Again, this is Yummy fingering in Tardis Tart Ombre and using 64 stitches with a 2.5 mm needle (US 1.5). I'm trying to finish the sock as a sample as I mentioned, for Monday. So far so good! Because I have a deadline, it's all I've been working on lately, so that's it for me today.

I'll see you Friday, hopefully with this sock finished!

Work in Progress Wednesday 148

Hi everyone. I hope everyone is doing good. I've been crazy busy and haven't had too much time to do much else. I'm not sure if I've mentioned this yet, but if you're in the Southern California area on June 24th, I will be speaking at the San Diego Knitting and Crochet Guild in Poway, CA at 1pm. I'll also have samples and will be selling yarn! Come if you live in the area. The more the merrier, that's for sure. I'm nervous as all get out!

The reason why I bring this us now is because I am knitting a sock for the occasion. Yes, sock, not plural. I've been meaning to knit a sample with Tardis Tart Ombre in Yummy fingering since I dyed the yarn and what a better time than now? I hope to finish this in time for the trunk show, as I have a feeling I'll get a lot of people asking how the yarn knits up.

This is what it looks like in the skein! (this was a different dye lot than the knitting above)

I have to say, I ADORE how it is knitting. I'm just doing a basic 2x2 rib on a size US 1.5 needle. The different shades of blue (and white) are spiraling around the cuff like a vortex! How very Doctor Who!!!

If you're interested in a skein of this yarn, I do have a few skeins available to ship as early as today! If the yarn doesn't have an "add to bag" button below it, I can have more dyed up this week.

I hope you have a great rest of the week. That's it for me today!

Work in Progress Wednesday 122

Happy hump day everyone! I hope you're having a great Wednesday, or it looks like your Wednesday will shape up to be a good one. It's slow and steady over here in Tami land, which is how I like it! I've been knitting and cross stitching the past few days, but wanted to share my knitting progress today.

My WIP pile is ridiculously huge, so I decided to pull out one that you haven't seen in a LONG time! Why haven't you seen it? You may remember that I broke my needle tip on these gloves like 6+ months ago! I found them in the move (or found the project bag that contained them!) and went to work again. Now I have another set of needles and thought it was time to finish these now that the weather is HOPEFULLY turning cold here. The pattern is Treads and I'm using Tosh Vintage in Baltic (the yarn is gorgeous!) I should have these done SOON, but I'm not making any promises! ;)

As you can see on my second WIP that I'm currently knitting, I'm almost finished here too! I'm just starting to toe decrease on my husband's first sock. I'm making these for Christmas, and so I better get a move on! I've been comparing it to the sock that I made him awhile ago, but it's hard since the ones already made are a little stretched out and felted. I'm not using a pattern, but just making it 2x2 rib on the cuff and on the in step with a garter ridge lined Eye of the Partridge heel (my favorite!). Hopefully they'll fit! I'm using Candy Skein November '12 colorway, Pumpkin Pie!

That's it for me today. I hope you have a great day and rest of your week! See you Friday!

FO Friday 105

Happy Friday everyone and happy birthday to my mom! I'm happy to announce we had our last two inspections on the house on Thursday! YAY! It's great to be careful with several inspections (we had a ton of inspections due to the age of the house), but they get a little old after awhile.

This should be a fun weekend for me! On Saturday, my husband has to work, so I'm going out with my great friend to look at cabinets/storage/furniture for my studio space at the new house! It's a separate bungalow in the backyard and I can build it out to my work specifications! I'm soo excited about it and I'll be sure to take pictures of the whole process. On Sunday, we're finally getting a chance to go apple picking and I can't wait! I'll try and share pictures of that too!

I normally don't share Candy Skein news/pictures for WIPW or FO Friday unless it's actual knitting, but I'm making today an exception. I hope you don't mind! As I mentioned, I'm getting ready for a show in Vista, CA that is October 13-14, 2012. I didn't get a chance to knit much this week, due to working, so I figured I would share some of that work.

Sorry for the poor lighting, but I took this at 9:30 at night and this was the only place that I could get them all in the same picture. These are skeins that I re-skeined today and all are currently available at candyskein.com in the Yummy fingering section.

That's it for me today! I hope you have a great weekend!

Share your FOs!
