Work-in-Progress Wednesday 31

Greetings everyone! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I spent mine painting! We got most of the downstairs painted, but it took us 3 1/2 hours on Saturday and 6 hours straight on Sunday. There are a few touch up that need to happen, as well as the long accent wall still needs it's fresh coat of paint. By the time we had to take a break on Sunday to eat around 5, we couldn't bring ourselves to continue after our meal. Who can blame us?

You may wonder why I'm blabbing so much about our painting, but it's because it brings me to my first WIP.

This may not look like much now, but it will be a pillow! When I bought the latest Crochet Today! magazine, I fell in love with the two patterns. Of course, at the time I didn't realize I would be changing the colors of my downstairs so quickly, which gives me a perfect opportunity to make them now. I went to Joann's Tuesday with 40% coupons in hand and our paint swatches to see how close we can get it with yarn and also to buy the pillows that will fill out the crochet shell. Yes...I had to use my 2nd yarn diet purchase (post coming tomorrow probably), but I think it will be well worth it. As you can see, I'm almost through one full skein of yarn and I just bought it Tuesday. We needed something to tie in the wall colors with our red...yes red...couches. I think this will be perfect. Right now I'm making the petal one (the one with the circles) and will be doing the circles in a red (to match the couch) and possibly a darker teal (to match the accent wall) since the main color matches every other wall in the room. What do you think, two colors for the circles or one? I'd probably do the larger circles in the red and the smaller ones in the darker teal. I hope to have this pillow finished for Friday...we'll see.

On to my second WIP. I'm crazy excited about this one. Remember my yarn purchase last week from Knit Picks? I bought three balls of Chroma yarn. Two of them are for the Noro Striped Scarf that everyone and their brother seems to make. I couldn't resist. They always are so beautiful and Chroma was more in my yarn budget than Noro is (and softer IMO). The two colorways I'm using are Regency and Galapagos. Originally I wanted Galapagos and Midwinter, but they were out of Midwinter when I made my order. I have to say, I'm pretty happy with Regency so far. Isn't it beautiful? I love not knowing what colors come next or what they will look like next to each other.

  2. Tami, I did some painting this weekend as well, albeit on a smaller scale. Room painting, though, oh the aching arms!! The scarf is pretty.

  3. ooooh, can't wait to see the pillows. I was visiting last Saturday and all of the toss pillows were ones that she had weaved on her loom. I am totally going to do that...one day.

  4. That yarn is amazing. I must try and find a UK seller for it.

  5. Kerry - greatbritishyarns.co.uk are the only UK stockists of Knitpicks yarns, but they don't currently carry the new Chroma range. She has just taken delivery of the entire Palette colour range though...

  6. That pillow will be perfect with your red couches! I'm a big fan of those two colors together. I vote for one color on the circles, but that might just be me. Either way, it'll be super cute. Your scarf is looking fantastic, too! I need to try a skein of the chroma and see if it makes me swoon like the mini mochi does. :)

  7. Those pillows are so pretty! Can't wait to see yours all finished up :)

I've never knit with Noro, but it always looks so pretty. Glad there's now a cheaper alternative. I'll have to nosy around to see if Chroma's available in the UK yet.

  9. I love pillows, I haven't made one myself since the 8th grade. Hmmm... sounds like a project to go on my Fiber Fun List

  11. Ooh, I love self-striping yarn. I have been drooling over the Chroma-- one of my knitting group friends is making a scarf out of it right now-- but my stash is already full of Lion Brand Amazing!

  12. Oooh, the striped scarf looks wonderful! What gorgeous yarn!

  13. Pillows are also on my one day list. You're going to show us some pics of all this paint right? That Chroma is LUSH.

  14. LOVE the color you've chosen for the pillow. Very pretty and very springy....and I do hope spring will grace us soon with it's presence.

  15. The painting sounded grueling. My back is aching just reading about it! The pillow is looking great. I love that color blue and the design is so cute. I would go with the two colors for the circles, that way it will accent all the main colors in your room. You'll have to post a finished pic of it gracing your couch with the freshly painted walls, too. I just love the colors of your scarf. I am probably one of the few who haven't yet made this scarf, but have always admired it. Knitting stripes is addictive and fun, isn't it?

  16. Halfpint, thank you!

Liz, you know, my arms weren't bad, it was my knees and hamstrings from kneeling while edging around the baseboards. We have hardwood floors...so not fun!

WonderWhyGal, I'm not sure why I didn't think of it sooner, but these patterns spurred me on! I love them!

Kerry, it IS amazing! It's so soft and fluffy, too. I'm not sure a UK seller sells it yet, as it's only a few months old here in the US.

Tink, thanks for the info for everyone in the UK! :)

Paula, you should try some Chroma. It's like $8 something a skein, but for a lot more yardage compared to Mochi. It comes in fingering and worsted weight, but I will say, at least the worsted, goes really thick to really thin. Thanks for the advice on the pillows. I still can't decide. LOL

elephantJuice, thanks! Tink mentioned above that there is a UK seller for Knit Picks, but she doesn't have Chroma yet. :( Maybe soon! I have yet to use Noro either. Too rich for my blood for how much yarn you get. Also, it's so scratchy.

    Michelle, thanks!

Dutch Hallow, sorry to add to your project list! It's amazing what a few pillows can do to spruce an area up, isn't it?

    Cris, thank you!

Aimee, it's actually two balls of yarn that are gradients and I'm doing two stripes of each. It'd be awesome if it was self-striping! A lot less work on my part. LOL

Unforth, thank you! The yarn is great. It makes me want to order more.

mutantsupermodel, yes! I will totally post some pics for you all!

Sandy, thank you! The new colors to our room are nice and bright. It's great and makes me want spring to arrive.

autumngeisha, it was grueling and we have to do it again this weekend. Ugh. Thanks for the input on the circles. I just can't decide! I will post a pic once we get eveything painted and back up on the walls. The stripes are totally addictive. I keep going "okay, I'll just knit ONE MORE STRIPE before I put it down"...and then do like 6 more. LOL

  17. My knit group is putting in an order to knit picks this week (we batch to save on the shipping to Canada) and your lovely scarf has convinced me that there will be some Chroma in my future.
I can't wait to see you finished pillows. Can you please post a pic of them in the living room when they are all done? I vote for one colour on the circles but either way they are going to be fab!

  18. Aimee from Love Knitted, I can't seem to comment on your beautiful blog! It is giving me a 404 error when I click on the "post a comment" link. :( Please let me know if it is working so I can comment.

  19. nursenikkiknits, yes! Order some Chroma! I'd love to hear what you think of it when you do get it. I will definitely post pics. :)

  20. I have to do all our decorating and it is exhausting. Yours sounds great. Post pics! I love the colour you've chosen for your pillows, it will go great with red (I would say one colour for the circles, but, what do I know ;-) ).

    Beautiful stripes too!

  21. I love the color of the pillow. I can't wait to see it with the accents. I think you should use the two colors.

The Noro scarf looks great too! I've been wanting to make one of those too. I've also been wanting to try out Chroma.

  22. you've moved Chroma onto my "must try this yarn" list. I love how those two colorways are working up in the scarf. Good luck with all the painting!

  23. I have been really curious about the Chroma yarn from Knitpicks. Happy to hear it's softer than Noro and it looks like it knitting up well. :) Your scarf is really pretty, I love the color combo you chose.

I have always wanted to make my own pillows for our couch, I am so jealous! It looks super cozy already. :) I think you should do the two colors for the circles. Red and Teal would look really cool. :)

  24. That is going to be such a cool pillow! Looks like fun. Please take a picture of it on your red couch after everything is done so we can oooh and aaah your cleverness.

  25. I have been lusting over the Chroma yarn. But I'm trying to be good on my diet, so it's going to be my reward when I reach my goal.

    ReplyDelete
  26. wrchili, thank you! Yeah, I've been wanting to make one of these scarfs even before I learned how to knit. I was going to use Mochi because I'm not a fan of the way Noro feels, but when Chroma came out, I knew it was perfect.

Marushka, awesome and thank you! Let me know if you like it when you get to purchasing it!

belovedknits, the pillow is coming a long fast. That's just one sitting, so I hope to finish by Friday. Of course, the family room won't be finished by then so I'll have to take a pic of the pillow finished and then of the whole room later. :)

Faith, thanks! It is fun and super easy so far.

Joycers, yeah, I'd been lusting since it came out too! I finally bit the bullet, but it looks like you're much stronger than me in the diet. What really got me was the new felicis. LOL

Nikki, welcome to WIPW! Is there a way to comment on your blog? I can't seem to find it.

  29. Love the color of your pillow and the scarf. I think I would go with the two colors for the circles.

I feel bad adding my link and just having time to read everyone's posts like I used to. Time is just so short supply. I do try to read what I can every week. Things will get better eventually.

  30. What fun! That scarf is turning out beautifully, isn't it?

  32. Feel free to come on over and help with my painting!

Can't wait to see the pillows finished up. I have wondered about the Chroma. I do love Mochi, but I am still sort of up in the air about Noro. Seems most people either love it or hate it. Great color choices.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Dina, ha! You wish. ;) Thank you. I'd say Chroma is MUCH more like Mochi than Noro!

  34. I love the texture on your pillow! Haven't tried the Chroma yet, but I like the way it looks in your Noro scarf.

  35. Dawn, thank you! Funny enough, it's just dc and sc.

  36. I've been thinking about buying myself some Chroma so I can make a Noro scarf too. I really like how yours is turning out!

  37. suddenexpression, you should! It's very very soft. My only complaint is it seems to fuzz/pill very quickly.
