FO Friday 69

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great week. I'm happy it's Friday. This week seemed to never end and tomorrow I'm headed to my favorite yarn store with my knitting group to check out a Unique Sheep truck show! I can't wait as it should be a very fun day.

I just wanted to mention that if you're interested in purchasing the new Candy Skein mini set, The Blue Collection, be sure to do so soon. As I typed this, I only had 8 remaining out of 17!

As promised on Wednesday, I have a few hexipuffs to share that I made this week. I made a few back in December, but in the last few days I've been addicted to making these little guys. I thought I would also show you what they look like in my jar that I showed you awhile ago, now that I have a few more.

For those of you who haven't heard about the hexipuff craze, thousands of people are making the Beekeeper's Quilt by Tiny Owl Knits. At first I thought the craze was silly, until I started making them and now I can't stop. Right now I don't plan on making a quilt, as that's just too much to think about, but I'm keeping them in a jar as a pretty colorful addition to my family room.

From top left: Candy Skein Yummy fingering Royal Rock Candy, Party Punch, Blackberry, Lemon Lime, Banana

Looking at all my puffs in the jar, I realized there was one other one you haven't seen, but I may be making it again anyway because my first three are way smaller than my newest. The newest are coming in closer to the pattern's gauge, where my first few were coming in at about 2.5" from point to point.

That's it for me. Have a great weekend!

  1. I admire anyone that can make a beekeepers quilt. I really dislike making things more than once, so the thought of making 100's of hexipuffs sends a shiver down my spine. It's bad enough that I'm having to make 2 socks haha!

    1. Even scarier, most people making a quilt are making close to 1,000!!!! Funny enough, I thought I would be tired of making them as well, but I'm not! For some reason, it's so quick and easy, it's not boring.

    1. Aren't they weirdly adorable? I love just squishing them!

  4. I do love the look of hexipuffes, but I know that it would lead to my doom if I started knitting them. I'll save my hexagons for my sewn projects, it's quicker!

    1. Good point! They don't take too long to knit them. I'm getting faster and it takes me about 40 minutes to finish, except the closing part. I usually safety pin them to hold the live stitches, then when I have a few to close, I do them in a row. The great thing is to get rid of all the little scraps of sock yarn!

    1. They are addicting. The great thing is to be able to finish something so quickly when your other WIPs are annoying.

    1. I agree! I figured my husband has enough tiki items around the room, I need to start balancing them with knitting items!

  10. I love that you put the puffs in a jar. I saw those other places and had no idea how to use them but the jar idea is adorable.

    1. Aww, thank you! It's perfect, as I can stare at them whenever I want. I got the jar REALLY cheap at Ikea, and the great thing is, it has a clamped lid so I don't have to worry about dust/animal fur getting into it.

    1. Thank you! It's very rewarding staring at them. I take a few out every once in awhile just to squish them!

  12. They are colorful in a jar. Finally I find out what they're suppose to be used for. I can't tell you the number of times I've asked people when I see them on their blogs. No one has ever responded and so I kept wondering what they would be used for. I can't imagine making a quilt out of them; but I like them in the jar for a colorful eye catching room decoration. I keep thinking how heavy a quilt would be made from them....then again maybe it's these darn hot flashes. lol

    1. You know, I linked to the pattern thinking of you! I knew you had asked previously and wasn't sure if anyone had gotten back to you. :)

As far as the heat, I'm sure it would be extremely hot! I know some people aren't stuffing them for that very reason.

  13. Beautiful! I am making hexipuffs but I'm not sure about the quilt idea, either. I'm keeping them in a big basket where me and my son take them out and sort them by color and squish them. (he's 1 and a half, and he absolutely loves them)
Glad to see mr linky alive again, too. :D

    2. Oh I remember the 1.5 stage - squishing hexagons with your little one must be so fun. I can hear the squeel of delight.

  19. Love the colors of your hexipuffs! I had to put mine aside during the holidays. I couldn't imagine a whole quilt, so I'm planning a cushion for the desk chair.
