Work-in-Progress Wednesday 86

Hi everyone! I'm going to keep this short today, but I just wanted to say I LOOOOVVEEEE The Hunger Games movie! Holy smokes. I can't stop thinking about it. We saw it in IMAX and let me tell you, it was worth every penny. I hope to go see it again next week with some friends.

Now to the knitting:

Look, I have one glove and a cuff of another!!! I should be further along, as I wanted to have these done for FO Friday as I promised. Of course, I'm knitting a little slower than normal. Let me show you why, or many may have guessed as I mentioned it on Friday.

See that? I broke the tip on my ONLY size 5 needles. I'm having to knit with one tipless one. :( How sad and ghetto is that!? I'm still hoping to finish the gloves in time. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the one already finished. I did some mods to the pattern, which I'll mention on Friday (or when I finish them).

I also shared the April colorway yesterday, so please check it out! I'm very excited/proud of this one, as it is one of my favorite colorways so far!

That's it for me today! Have a great rest of the week and until Friday, happy knitting!

  1. I hope you get hold of a new needle soon!
And about Hunger Games... I haven't read the books, but intend to. Should I still go see the movie or would that ruin it for me? I'm sort of on the fence on this...

    1. I think the movie could definitely hold up if you haven't seen the book. It's just a pretty good movie all around. That being said, the book as better of course, as all books to movies are. There are parts of the movie you might just have to assume things, but overall they explain stuff pretty good.

  2. Oh I am wondering about the book vs. movie, too.
Again, LOVE your yarn. Your colorways are so beautiful.

  3. This is the second post this week that I've read about a broken needle. IT'S AN EPIDEMIC! Well... maybe not. I'm glad you are persevering. If the first glove is any indication, they are totally going to be worth it.

    1. Seriously, maybe it's contagious! Mine actually happened due to the lateral braid.

  4. Tami, could you please remove link number 4? For some reason it copied my finished project into the link section again.
Link 5 is the correct one. So Sorry!

  10. Sorry, wanted to first tell you how much I love your gloves....such a beautiful colour! Sad about the broken needle - what a bother!

Would you say you liked the movie as much as the book?
I am always so weary about watching movies adapted from really good books. They always seem to manage to leave the best parts out! The only exception to this rule for me so far would be Lord of the Rings.

    1. I usually hate book to movie adaptions, but this one held up. Of course the book is better, but I think that the movie actually improved parts of the storytelling. One of my favorite parts of the movie was actually added into the story for movie purposes. I think the only recent book to movie adaption that held up was Water for Elephants (before The Hunger Games).

  11. So sorry about the needles. That must be so frustrating. Can you file the edge down?

    1. I was thinking I might be able to. One of my good friends suggested filing and then using clear nail polish to make it smooth. I'm going to try it after I finish the gloves.

  12. Wow, I thought that the acrylic needles would be more stable than that. At least you didn't lose any stitches!

  13. That is the saddest picture, your poor broken tip. I think it'd be no end of frustrating to try knitting with it. Is it ragged? Does the yarn catch.

    1. Nope, snapped clean off! I guess that's the good thing about the acrylic needles. The tip got caught on the yarn when doing the lateral braid at the part you bring it forward to knit the front stitch. I'm sure a wood would have split and been ragged.

  14. Sorry to hear about the needles. I hate when the tools fall apart. It is just the worst feeling.

  15. That sucks about the broken needle! There must be something about broken needles at the moment, one of my circulars broke a couple of weeks ago. I hope it's not holding you back too much though :)

  17. The mitten looks beautiful and I'm sure the other one will too, even though your knitting with a broken tip!

  18. Hi Tami I am going to see that movie this weekend in IMAX I so can't wait:)I love your mittens they are beautiful. I could use a pair as my hands are always cold. I crochet alot but I would love to get better at knitting. I guess someday lol.

    1. Just practice! I started with crochet and haven't been knitting very long (about a year and three months). Many around here saw the start of my knitting and helped me out. You'll be knitting like a pro in no time!

  19. Broken tips aren't fun, but I think it's awesome you are continuing with your project anyways. I still am in love with those gloves.

  20. No! How annoying about the tip. I have been known to sharpen wooden ones with a pencil sharpener but you can't do that with glass!!

  21. They look great, love the color. How in the world are you knitting without a tip? I wouldn't want to risk splitting the yarn and would go buy new needles before continuing.

I'm already tired of hearing about the hunger games and it's not yet reached the level of the harry potter stuff....not sure why hype bothers me so; but it always does. Then because I hear stuff over and over and over, I never read or watch those items. It's been years since I have. Everytime I did, I was disappointing. Things never lived up to the hype. I'm blaming my attitude on age, lol.

    1. Well, I'll have to order replacements as it's not a needle I can just buy locally. It doesn't split the yarn at all, as it's a clean break and the yarn is a very tight twist. :)

The Hunger Games is as good as advertised, IMO. I'm usually against the hype too and at time hype ruins things I really love. That's not the case for me with Harry Potter and The Hunger Games as my love was SO strong before the hype began.

  22. Hey girl! Awesome glove! I'm so impressed -- fingers and everything! Sorry you're having to deal with the broken tip, but good for you for soldiering on. Haven't seen Hunger Games yet, fingers crossed for this weekend, but I find it very comforting that you loved it. :)

    1. Thanks! You'll love the movie if you loved the book. The casting/acting was so much better than I would have thought. Jennifer Lawrence ROCKED as Katniss.

  24. Oh gosh, that looks really hard going on those needles! Hope you get the gloves done soon so that you can sort them out. The one you've done looks awesome :)

  25. Your yarn color is beautiful--very rich jewel tone.

  26. UGH. A broken tip. REALLY?!? That would put a bitter taste in my mouth. Good for you for keeping-on instead of retiring these until your replace your 5s, which is what I would do in the same bind. :-D

  27. Gorgeous mitts - did you dye the yarn yourself?

Sorry about that broken tip....what a bummer ;(

  28. The gloves are gorgeous! Good luck getting the second one finished without the tip :)

  29. That would drive me bonkers! Don't know if I want to see the movie or not. It is not a genre that typically intrigues me.

  30. I can't wait to see the movie - I've read the books and love them! Hopefully I'll get to go in the next few days.
    Sorry about the broken needle!

  31. I wasn't sure if I could joining in -- my WIP is a wardrobe for my newest BabyGirl. This week I made her a sweet little (really? that little?) reversible dress. http://likemamalikedaughter.blogspot.com/2012/03/squirrelys-nutty-brown-owl-dress.html
