Work-in-Progress Wednesday 26

Do you know what I just realized? Today marks six months of WIPW. Can you believe that? I can't. Thanks to all of you who have grown WIPW to where it is today. I can't wait until we hit our 1 year mark!

I might as well call this work in progress I HATE THIS YARN! Yes, for some reason I have two projects to share with you today and both have hard to work with yarn. I'm not exactly sure why I did this, but at least I'll appreciate regular yarn when I switch back.

The picture doesn't do the color of the yarn justice. It's actually more of a raspberry redish purple instead of blue purple. Either way, I'm making a garter stitch scarf. Nothing fancy, because this yarn is a little annoying to work with. It's Alpaca Cloud that I got from Smiley's. It is INSANELY soft, but very wispy.

This is a blanket that I started from Light and Lofty. I started with this pattern but changed it a little since I'm using such difficult yarn. The feeling if it crocheted is AMAZING, but working with it is almost impossible. To find the stitches, it's all by feel. I wish it was a little wider, so I was thinking of frogging and starting over so that it's a little wider. It's a little more of a throw than a blanket, so I'm not sure if it matters really. We'll see. I will also be using a tan color right after I finish this row.

For those that are new to WIPW, to share your WIPW post with us, just fill out the Mr. Linky below. Despite it saying you must comment, don't feel as if you do. That is something Mr. Linky automatically adds. I just ask you to check out a few of the links posted to see what everyone else is working on and comment there if you can. Everyone loves feedback and a little encouragement on their projects! Also, please link back to this post in your post to get the word out! The more the merrier!

  1. Maybe changing to wood/bamboo needles will help hold the Alpaca Cloud a little bit better? Also, I love that you are a night-owl like me!

  3. Joycers, actually, those are wood needles, it's just a really bad picture. They are Knit Picks Harmony. Actually, I must confess, I am a night owl (I was awake when this was posted), but I schedule them out to post at 12:01am since we have many different time zones posting. I don't physically post it myself. I'm tricky like that. ;)

    Northern Monkey, thanks!

Amy, welcome! You're welcome. Thanks for joining us. :)

  4. Yay! 6 months really?? It may be naughty yarn, but it is pretty. Hang in there. It will be worth it.

  5. Thank you for hosting WIPW and letting us all in on the fun! It's my second knit night of the week and I always look forward to seeing what everyone is up to. And it looks like you're up to your neck in pretty yarn! I think that a simple garter stitch pattern is perfect for Alpaca Cloud and shows off that gorgeous color so well!

  7. Thanks for WIP Wednesday & FO Friday, too. I have found many great blogs here, and also been "discovered" by new readers. It's fun to see what we are all learning from each other, isn't it?

PS - my sympathy on the yarn frustrations! Some yarns are wonderful to look at or to touch, but not to actually knit.

  8. Dina, thanks. Time flies, doesn't it?

Autumngeisha, you're welcome. I look forward to WIPW too, even though sometimes I stress about it. LOL Thanks about the scarf. I wanted to do something a little more fancy, but in the end, I think this was the right choice.

    nursenikkiknits, thank you!

Marushka, you're welcome. I love it and have met all of you lovely people. The group encouraged me to start knitting and I'm totally grateful for that!

  9. 6 months wow!!! Working with difficult yarn is totally not fun. :( Not WIPW from me this week since I really didn't work on my ole gray lace scarf for more than 30 minutes.

  10. Aww, yay! Happy 6 month-iversary! To celebrate, I'm hosting a tiny little giveaway. Okay, actually it's just a coincidence, but free stuff is free stuff, right? Sorry about the crap yarn. The colors are gorgeous, and hopefully the pretty FOs will make up for the pain. :)

  11. Alea, crazy, isn't it? It seems like we were just talking about if I should start it or not! LOL Bummer, hopefully you'll be able to work on something soon. Maybe start on something new to get re-inspired?

Paula, thanks! Awesome, everyone loves free stuff! ;) Thank you, but yes, the projects are a pain in the butt.

  14. How to believe it's been six months. Hope you enjoy your projects more towards the finish.

The thing with ripple afghans is you can't tell how wide they will be from the chaining as the pattern cinches it up.

  15. Beadknitter, amazing isn't it? Seriously, I wonder when I'm going to stop writing 2010 on everything as well, actually make that 2009! LOL

Delusional Knitter, thank you! I hope so, too!

Denise, yes, I learned the hard way with the ripple. I think I've decided to frog it and double the chain length for the pattern. The only problem is I only have 6 skeins of the blue yarn, and it's a discontinued color. I may have to think about adding a 3rd color. Any ideas? So far I have this blue and then a tan color.

  16. Oh, I've had some yarns like that. Even casting on was a problem! Good luck!

Happy 6 month anniversary! Thank you for starting this and creating a little WIP community!!

  17. SweetPotato, yeah, the cast on was pretty sketchy. It was hard to figure out if my needle was under all the fiber or not.

Thank you and you're welcome! :)
